First Dentist Visit: What to Expect

Not sure what is involved when you first pay us a visit? Don’t worry; this page will walk you through what will be involved on your very first time at Dee Dental Paisley. You’ll be in excellent hands no matter what you see us for; we provide private dental care, urgent dental care services, private treatment options, facial aesthetics, cosmetic orthodontics and much more.

If there is something else you need or require extra support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Step 1: Introductions

When you arrive at our practice, you’ll be greeted by our friendly reception staff, who will take your name and confirm your dentist appointment. You’ll be asked to sanitise your hands and taken directly to the surgery to minimise Covid touch points. You might be required to fill out some initial paperwork, so please bear with us while we get you set up.

Step 2: Initial Check-up

Once your name has been called, you’ll be escorted through to our dentist’s room. You’ll be greeted by our dentist and dental nurses and invited to get comfortable in the chair.

From there, we will conduct a thorough check-up of your oral health and hygiene. We’ll undertake a physical exam of your mouth to determine the overall health of your teeth and gums. We’ll check for plaque build-up, gum health and investigate any pain or discomfort you may be experiencing. This is a necessary process, as we need to have a detailed understanding of your oral health so we can gauge the next steps.

Our dentists and nurses are highly qualified, friendly, experienced professionals who will make you feel at ease and supported throughout the whole process.

Digital DentistryStep 3: 5D Digital Scanning

At your consultation, we take an even deeper look into your oral health. Using our specialised scanners, which you won’t find at many practices, we take a full digital scan of your mouth on your first visit, which lets us see what’s going on inside your teeth, gums and jaw structure. These scans allow us to see so much that with the naked eye or a complete set of x-rays.

5D Scanning also allows us to monitor changes in your gum health. Gum disease is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults, and a digital scan can give us more insight into any periodontal issues that could be arising. This allows us to either act fast or take some preventative measures. A scan will also clearly show us gum recession and previous treatments such as fillings.

If you choose a 5D scan, we’ll repeat the process every six months and compare the results. It’s the best and easiest way for us to monitor your oral health.

Step 4: In-depth holistic consultation Dee Dental Dinah

After conducting the check-up, we’ll ask you some questions about your lifestyle and general well being. It might seem strange for a dentist to ask about health issues seemingly unrelated to the mouth. Still, we take a holistic approach to advising our patients and believe that the body is interconnected.

Therefore, in this consultation, we’ll establish a clear understanding of your overall bodily health so we can consider the whole picture when we recommend treatment. This allows us to treat you with the utmost specificity and care.

Once we’ve had an in-depth conversation about your health history, you’re encouraged to share any concerns or goals with us. This includes discussing aesthetic issues, such as teeth straightening solutions, teeth whitening, veneers or implants.

Step 5: Arranging Further Treatment

After the check-up and consultation, we might recommend further treatment. This could be a referral to the dental hygienist, who will give your teeth a scale and polish to keep plaque build-up at bay, or for initial appointments regarding aesthetic procedures such as tooth replacement or whitening treatments.

You’ll be escorted back through to the reception area, where our staff will draw up an estimate for you. They’ll then book you an appointment for a later date and look forward to seeing you next time.
