Composite Bonding

A simple solution for a beautiful smile and improved oral health

With recent advancements in the technology and composite materials used for teeth bonding, it's becoming an increasingly popular treatment option for those wanting to improve the shape, colour and appearance of their teeth.

This dental procedure is minimally invasive and incredibly versatile; its range of different uses include:

  • Repairing a chipped tooth
  • Closing gaps between teeth
  • Changing the shape of teeth
  • Improving the appearance of discoloured teeth for a whiter smile
  • Add protection to exposed root surfaces

What Is Composite Bonding?

Cosmetic dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-coloured material, or composite, is applied to the surface of the tooth to change its shape, size or colour. This can improve the appearance of a single tooth, or help transform your entire smile.

Thanks to the advancements in this area of dentistry, the procedure can now be used to disguise imperfections such as gaps, minor tooth rotations and chips with absolutely no damage to the teeth.

But, isn't that just a crown or porcelain veneer? No, dental bonding differs because unlike crowns and veneers, they don't need to be created in a lab and then fixed to the teeth. Cosmetic bonding can be completed in a single visit and have much lower costs.

The composite resin used for the treatment allows us to achieve the perfect colour-match to each patient's natural teeth which means you can always expect excellent results.

How does the treatment work?

The treatment starts with a chat with your dentist. In the consultation, you can talk about which imperfections you'd wish to cover and be advised on the best treatment.

From here, in a single visit, your dentist can use composite bonding for a range of treatments.

The first step is colour-matching the composite, making sure that it blends with your other teeth before it is applied to the tooth surface.

The resin is then carefully smoothed, shaped and used to hide whatever imperfections you wish to disguise. Once shaped, the composite is hardened, and you're good to go, with a new smile and new confidence.

While not as long-lasting as veneers, composite bonding is a highly cost-effective alternative which can be repeated with no damage to your teeth. This is because, unlike veneers, no preparation to the tooth is needed and so the tooth is preserved.

How do I care for Composite Bonding?

As time goes by, the material used for the bonding will begin to dull and perhaps pick up staining and general wear and tear. The best way to protect your teeth and prolong the composite's life-span is by keeping up with good oral care. Brush, avoid damaging food and drink and keep up with your regular check-ups.

However, once the bonding needs some attention, you can choose to have it polished, replaced or recontoured to keep up your perfect smile.
